Sweet Prospect: an anthem for SSA voices

'On Jordan's Stormy Banks' is included in a number of modern hymnals. The text is of the late-1700's, and it is commonly paired with the Southern Harmony tune PROMISED LAND.

This setting uses a tune from The Sacred Harp, and it seems likely that the tune was written for this text. Named SWEET PROSPECT, the title harkens back to an older understanding of 'prospect' as a view or a survey of the scenery.

Hopefulness is the underlying theme here: "O're all those wide extended plains shines one eternal day. There God, the Sun, forever reigns and scatters night away."

Thematically, this piece works well in November or anytime the kingdom of God is the focus.
