While many may contend that Christmas is indeed thrilling, it is not a description readily associated with the Advent season. Perhaps that is why this text leaps off of the page:
Hark! A thrilling voice is sounding!
"Christ is near," we hear it say.
"Cast away the works of darkness,
all you children of the day!"
This anthem is intended to convey a sense of joy at the coming of the promised Messiah. It is quite flexible in its voicing and instrumentation, so that it can be proclaimed in a variety of thrilling ways.
